This week in Real Estate: 5 Holiday Decorating Trends Adding Festive Flair This Season
The National Association of REALTORS® highlights five holiday decorating trends for the 2024 season:
-
Seeing Red: Traditional red is making a strong comeback, with red-drenched Christmas trees gaining popularity. Pinterest reports a 600% increase in searches for "red Christmas tree." Bright red berries are also being incorporated into greenery like garlands and wreaths.
-
1970s Flair: Decor inspired by the 1970s is trending, featuring disco ball wreaths, rainbow lighting, and retro ornaments such as microphones and records. Mushroom-themed décor is also becoming popular in holiday fabrics and ornaments.
-
Oversized Decorations: Large-scale baubles and giant yard decorations are creating impactful holiday displays. Oversized paper stars and bows are being used to adorn trees and stairways. Additionally, the average size of Christmas trees purchased has increased, with more consumers opting for trees 7 feet or taller.
-
Old-World Regency: Inspired by the 19th-century Regency era, this trend features lavish materials and rich jewel tones like deep sapphire blues and ruby reds. Design elements include gold accents, velvety fabrics, faux fur, lace, and tassels, creating a regal and romantic aesthetic.
-
Nostalgic Touches: There's a renewed appreciation for vintage holiday décor, including antiques and family heirlooms. Items like vintage nutcrackers, wooden sleds, gingerbread houses, and hand-painted figurines are being used to evoke a cozy, traditional holiday atmosphere.
These trends reflect a shift towards bolder and more personalized holiday decorations, blending traditional elements with contemporary flair.
