This week in Real Estate: 10 Hottest Home Design Trends to watch for in 2025
The "Styled, Staged & Sold" blog has identified the top 10 home design trends to watch for in 2025:
-
English-Style Kitchens: Featuring rich wood cabinets and historical paint colors like moody blues and deep greens, complemented by natural countertops such as soapstone and butcher's block.
-
Rounded Furnishings: Incorporating gentle curves and rounded edges in furniture, including circular tables and bulbous sofas, to enhance organic modern styles.
-
Arches: Adding arched elements to doorways, windows, and accessories to soften harsh angles and create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere.
-
Shower Rooms: Designing fully enclosed shower spaces with glass doors to provide privacy and a spa-like experience, accommodating features like steam and sauna functions.
-
Kitchen Range Alcoves: Introducing recessed or niche areas for kitchen ranges, often arched, to serve as focal points and allow for striking backsplash designs.
-
Woven and Mesh Cabinet Fronts: Utilizing woven and mesh details in cabinets and furniture to add texture and visual interest, creating a cozy and welcoming space.
-
Narrow Wet Rooms: Implementing wet room designs in smaller, narrower bathrooms by placing a tub at the back with a separate shower in front, offering a luxurious feel in tight spaces.
-
Wood-Infused Architectural Warmth: Incorporating wood elements like ceiling beams, trim, and wall paneling paired with warm neutral palettes to add warmth throughout the home.
-
Layers of Color, Pattern, and Texture: Embracing maximalist styles by layering bold colors, patterns, and textures to reflect personality and create dynamic spaces.
-
Multiple Outdoor Cooking Options: Expanding beyond traditional grills to include outdoor cooking methods like pizza ovens, smokers, and gaucho grills, enhancing backyard dining experiences.
These trends reflect a shift towards personalized, warm, and functional home designs for the upcoming year.
Tips and Best Practices:
TV Design Shows May be Reshaping Buyers' Expectations
Reality television design shows are influencing home buyers' expectations, often leading them to anticipate market-ready homes that mirror the perfection seen on screen. A survey by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) revealed that 55% of real estate agents believe these shows create unrealistic standards for home appearances.
Buyers may judge properties based on furnishings and wall colors, expecting impeccably staged environments. To meet these heightened expectations, 80% of buyer’s agents report that home staging assists clients in visualizing living in a property. Additionally, a third of these agents note that staging can increase a home's value by 1% to 10% compared to similar unstaged homes.
Debbie Boggs, co-founder of the Staging Studio, emphasizes that if a home isn't receiving showings or offers, it might be due to disappointing buyers. She suggests enhancing the property's appeal through effective staging rather than reducing the price. Staging can alter perceptions of a home's size, value, and potential, making it more attractive to prospective buyers.
In summary, while TV design shows have raised buyers' expectations, strategic home staging can bridge the gap between reality and perception, leading to quicker sales and potentially higher offers.
